Social Progress Index

From Data to Impact

The global Social Progress Network consists of partner organizations in business, government and civil society that use the Social Progress Index as a tool to advance social progress. Initiatives in the United States include #Social Progress Somerville—Measuring social progress in the city of Somerville, Massachusetts. Launched in January of 2015, and led by the City of Somerville through Mayor Joseph Curtatone’s office and SomerStat, this initiative aims to develop a set of key social performance indicators to complement the policy agenda faced by one of the country’s most densely populated urban environments, particularly focused on housing, mobility, and inclusive growth. Other initiatives include #Social Progress Michigan Cities, also launched in January of 2015. Led by a multi-sector committee of government, business, and local civil society, this effort will support the State of Michigan’s Office of Urban and Metropolitan Initiatives to implement and monitor social progress alongside the urban agenda for all of Michigan’s urban centers. The initial pilot will focus on four cities—Detroit, Flint, Kalamazoo, and Pontiac. Please contact us (see photo at bottom of this page) to support any of these initiatives.
